Testimonial - Laura Moore, Human Resources, Gateshead Council

"As a member of the Territorial Army, the Council’s Work/Life Balance Policy is very beneficial to me. The Council recognises the pressure I can be under and supports me by being flexible with my hours and giving me additional leave to attend two week annual camps."

My role as a Senior Support Assistant in Human Resources at Gateshead Council is providing technical support to the Personnel Advisors. This involves a variety of tasks including approving requests to fill and advertise vacancies, approving changes to employee contracts, coordinating issue and receipt of job evaluation questionnaires, various project work including the creation and analysis of databases to monitor and record sickness levels of staff for various departments and general HR queries as well as attending recruitment fairs. Working in a team of three I enjoy the interaction of working with other departments to achieve a specific goal.

Working at Gateshead Council has given me plenty of opportunities to develop myself. I joined the Council four years ago through the Business Administration Apprenticeship scheme where I gained an NVQ Level 3 and I’m currently working towards my degree in Business Management, which the Council has encouraged.
