Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust
Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services for people who live in Gateshead and some specialist services for people from the wider region. The Trust was founded on 5 January 2005 under the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003.
As an NHS Foundation Trust, local people have a greater say in the running and delivery of health services. At the end of March 2007, 9,000 people had joined as members and through the Council of Governors local people have a direct input into shaping the Trust’s future.
‘Health check’ ratings published on 11 October 2006 by the Independent Healthcare Commission reported the Trust as “Good” for both Quality of Service and use of resources.

During 2006/07 we employed 3,286 people (equivalent to 2759.93 full time posts) and 66% of these were employed in direct clinical care. This is a reduction of 34 posts (22.44 full time posts) on the number of staff employed in 2005/06. The Trust is a major employer in Gateshead, a key factor in the local economy.
