Gateshead NHS PCT

This year has seen the development of new ways of working for Gateshead Primary Care Trust.

As a result we have moved towards integrated management arrangements, across Gateshead Primary Care Trust (PCT), South Tyneside Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust (TPCT), which together make up South of Tyne and Wear primary care services.

The funding we receive is used to make sure that there are primary care services, community services, hospital and emergency care, mental health services and special treatments for those who really need them. This means working closely with local GPs, dentists, pharmacists and optometrists, and with local hospitals and social services, to develop and provide high quality, seamless healthcare for residents.

NHS South of Tyne and Wear directly employs approximately 2500 staff who provide a wide range of community and primary care services such as:

  • District nursing
  • Health visiting
  • School nursing
  • Community dentistry
  • Public Health, including stop smoking, substance misuse and sexual health services
  • Podiatry
  • Speech and Language Therapy

Our most important asset is our staff because it is through them that we can continue to improve and modernise health services. We work hard to be a model employer and we are committed to involving them and providing training and development opportunities. They can then make the best possible use of their experience and skills and, therefore, provide the best possible care for local people.

We also want them to enjoy their time at work and to achieve a healthy work/life balance.

Equality is central to everything we do, both in services we provide and as an employer. NHS South of Tyne and Wear strives to develop a culture which respects diversity and promotes equality. We want to ensure that staff have equal opportunities during their working lives and feel valued for the contribution they make.
